Tamiya has produced a self-assembly robotic toy with a difference: it’s a centipede.
Test your engineering skills by putting this Tamiya Centipede Robot together and then letting it slither around. Just be sure to warn your roommates and family first!
It comprises separate body sections and a central motor unit. The flexible leg parts help propel the model along, while, as Tamiya says, “universal joints between the sections allow the model to negotiate obstacles and hug the terrain.” If you adjust the number of body sections or leg directions, you can also customize the motion of the toy.
The result is a real cross between the creepy and cute, and it’s educational too because you can learn about centipedes and building!
Not just a quirky gimmick, the completed centipede is genuinely impressive and can adapt to different terrain. Take a look at the versatile arthropod in action!
This is the not the first unusual RC or robotic toy that Japan has produced, it must be said. Past favorites include a tissue box in a train design, sushi, and even a cockroach. JTT also produced a much simpler infrared RC centipede toy a few years ago.
The Tamiya Centipede Robot is available now from Japan Trend Shop.
